Scanning through The Huffington Post i came upon a headline of another male model who just died and being in the fashion industry, i happen upon these unpleasant headlines more often than i would like to. As unfortunate an incidence a death is, it is compounded and somehow more tragic when it is of someone young and beautiful, in this case Charles Devoe. It is not reported how he died but whilst finding out, i was reminded of a few other models who had died or committed suicide, like the forever 20 year old Ruslana Korshunova and male model Ambrose Olsen(24), and as I was reading about their demise, I had a very mortal thought J…Soo many of us are unhappy and insecure with our outer shells and the lengths we go to to change things, imagine how cool it would be if we could take the shell of those who have voluntarily exited from theirs, especially those of the afore mentioned! I know it to be an extremely diabolical and superficial a thought, but imagine the consequences if it were a possibility!?! Would make for a very juicy morsel for Hollywood script writers, that’s for sure. People would wait for the young and beautiful to die or drive them to commit suicide, there would be auctions held, all moral and religious debates would become passé. Beautiful people would go into hiding and parents would wish for ugly children, oh the possibilities, LOL.
Don’t think me unkind, I was saddened as anyone would be to read about someone who could not take the BS and decided to make an exit, but I also thought it to be a selfish and a cruel joke on those of us who are still here. I know beauty fades, but why do we have to be trapped in one body when there are perfectly good bodies that have been abandoned? Why do we have to be uncomfortable in our skin and be constantly reminded that we are not getting any younger? Why can’t we jump from shell to shell???...But as I mentioned, it is a Mortal thought, a Fantasy, and that is why I am taking the liberty to elaborate and indulge. I know quite well why, but when in a fantasy you do not seek logic you seek indulgence. Fantasies are healthy and fun when you have a safe word, when you know there is a safety net that will stop it from going too far. But in the fantasy that is Life the only safe word is “Death”, or the act of it, so baring in mind that the creator knows what It is doing, all we can do is watch how it all goes down. I know my musings are one of a dissatisfied moviegoer who thinks himself better than the movie director and how he would have done the scene differently or made the ending much better, but he never does, because he cant.
Indeed Man is forever ungrateful but I find solace in the understanding that those models exited their shell for a reason, and maybe that reason was the burden of possessing the very thing that we all covet.
